Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be moving to a foreign country to live, let alone a country in the Middle East. Over the 2009 Christmas and New Year’s holidays, my husband Roger and I discussed what we wanted the next part of our life to be like. He thought that before retiring, he would like to do one more airport project but only if he could find something very interesting. I half-jokingly agreed that would be fine but could he try for an exotic location? As usual, Roger came through and soon we were headed to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. This blog is a recap of our "leap-of- faith" wanderings around the Middle East and beyond. We joyfully share these expat experiences.

I am applying for a job in Dubai as a teacher. I would like to know about the culture. The do's and dont's and what offends.
Dubai is a little more laid back than most Arab countries but there are some things you need to consider especially as it pertains to women. Emirati/Muslim women are never to be alone with a male other than a family member i.e like in an elevator . .you let the elevator go and take the next one, you never shake hands with a Muslim women unless she offers her hand first. There is zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol - caught driving with even just one drink and it means jail time. These are the big ones. Knowledge of Arabic is a big plus. Hope this helps.
I want to move overseas is this a place for family, especially a person with a 3 year old. Just family of two.
Love to read simplicity of your Blog
